Welcome on Board
9 May — 22 May, 2026 | Brussels
Welcome on Board is an open invitation from a diverse crew now known as Sket soon. While every member of this group is a skateboarder, they represent a wide range of ages and skill levels. Some are professionals within the industry, others are instructors, and some are just beginning their journey on a board. They first connected through skating, using it as a foundation to share their cultures and exchange ideas across their artistic, visual, and musical practices. The exhibition Welcome on Board grew from a collective desire to blend these unique artistic worlds through a series of limited-edition, custom-designed skateboards.
The collective Sket soon will take on a ten-day residency to develop and present their creations on boards. Throughout the exhibition, they will invite participants to join in and customize their own boards, fostering an open, inclusive, and intergenerational environment. In addition to this hands-on creation, the group will host a lecture to open up a broader discussion about the intersection of art and skate culture.
Espace Vanhomwegen is excited to welcome the Brussels based collective Sket soon, as they share the same energy, values, and vision. This collaboration reflects a mutual commitment to human-centered, community-based projects that bring people together through creativity and shared passion. By hosting this residency, we believe in breaking down the boundaries between professional recognized practices and the raw, lived practice of art itself by questioning its purpose in society and opening up new spaces for dialogue. Because, in the end, skate culture belongs to everyone. Long live skate culture!
The opening will feature a warm, communal atmosphere with food provided by local partners. To conclude the project, the finissage will showcase the newly created boards alongside a series of concerts featuring musicians from the collective. A DJ set will follow to celebrate the end of this collaborative journey.
