16.10.26 - 18.10.26
Et maintenant, t’en es où?, presenting recent multidisciplinary works by Jean-Bernard Robillard. In this multifaceted, shape-shifting exhibition, Robillard takes us on an evocative journey through art history. In this exhibition drawing connections from prehistoric cave art, Antiquity, and Classicism through to Modern and Contemporary icons such as Jan van Eyck, Marcel Duchamp, Keith Haring, and Jeff Wall. And now, where do you stand?” is a multi-medium and protean exhibition presenting the latest works of Jean-Bernard Robillard.
It tells a story, perhaps even his own, through the lens of art history. Jean-Bernard invites the viewers on a brief stroll, wandering from cave art to contemporary art, passing through antiquity, classicism, and modern art. Through his pieces, he references drawings and sculptures found in prehistoric caves as well as Van Eyck, Marcel Duchamp, Keith Haring, and Jeff Wall. Jean-Bernard adopts the phrase attributed to Lavoisier and applies it to the field of art: “Nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed.”
And now, where do you stand? is also a question. He addresses it to himself as much as to the viewers. It is a personal, situational, and temporal question. It questions the artist, his role as such, and his place in history. It questions the viewers and the role they play in the creative process. They are invited to be simple "onlookers," or in some presented pieces, to become active participants or even the final creators of the artwork. After all, regarding the question: “At what point does a work of art exist, and who makes it?” Did Marcel Duchamp not answer: “I sincerely believe that the picture is made by the viewer as much as by the artist”?
Jean-Bernard graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts du Mans in 2003. He has held over twenty exhibitions worldwide (Belgium, Brazil, Hungary, France, India, Japan, Thailand). He works with various mediums ranging from drawing to sculpture, from photography to video installation, as well as performance art.
